Antonio Mellino after graduating
from the exclusive Naples Hotel School, began his career in 1974 as
a waiter on cruiser liners. However his dream was to open a restaurant
of his own in his hometown of Nerano.
In 1984 his dream came true when he not only opened the “Quattro
Passi” but in just a few short years also won national renown.
In 1997 he won the “Pommery” award from the “Espresso”
magazine and in 1998 the Italian Academy of Cuisine awarded him with
the “Pastai d'Italia” award. In 1999 the Meridien chain
called him to Japan to organise “Campania” region cookery
courses. In 2000, in his guide Gino Veronelli described him as a refined
and intuitive inventor of relatively new cuisine, the fruit of sudden
flashes of genius.
In November 2000 upon his return from a gastronomic tour of Switzerland’s
finest restaurants in representation of Campania cuisine, he learned
to his enormous surprise that the Michelin guide had awarded him with
one of its much sought-after stars.
In October 2002 he received an award of merit from the Académie
Internationale des Gourmets et des Traditions Gastronomiques. |
